They have yet to enter the vegan or even vegetarian burger battles, however, and their menu options are slim for vegan diners. While there aren't many options for vegans at In-N-Out—unfortunately, the beloved animal-style burger is off-limits—there are ways to tweak the standard burger order for your cruelty-free enjoyment. Treehugger Tip Beware anything animal-style at In-n-Out. For burgers, this means you get lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheese, grilled onions, and a "secret" spread that many liken to Thousand Island dressing. The dressing and cheese (and, of course, the meat) are not vegan. Best Bet: A Patty-Less Burger With Fries The most filling option for vegans dining at In-N-Out is a modified burger with fries. Make your own vegan "burger" by ordering a burger without meat, cheese, or any spread. You'll end up with a bun with lettuce, tomato, and onions. You can also ditch the bun entirely and get your veggies wrapped in lettuce, or "protein style" as the chain dubs it. Fill up on fries. They're cooked in 100% sunflower oil, making them vegan with no adjustments necessary. Make sure to avoid the "secret" sauce, a spread that contains mayonnaise, and stick with ketchup for dipping. You can add a little more flavor by ordering pickles and grilled onions on your bun. Just know that it's possible the grilled onions will be prepared on the same grill used to cook the burgers, meaning that cross-contamination is a risk. Vegan Drinks You can adequately wet you whistle with the vegan beverage options at In-And-Out.
