A few years ago, company management expressed reluctance to introduce vegan selections to the toppings list in the United States. However, here’s hoping the recent influx of plant-based proteins at other pizza chains will cook up some change. Our Top Picks Hopes for vegan pizza aside, Domino's still offers several awesome meals that can be easily veganized. Here are our favorites: The Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich Ironically, this selection is easy as pie. Because the sandwich artisan bread is vegan, all you have to do is request no cheese. The finished sandwich will be a satisfying stack of roasted red peppers, banana peppers, diced tomatoes, fresh baby spinach, and onions. If you order a sandwich at the store, switch things up on every visit with either pizza sauce, barbecue sauce, or mango habanero sauce. Build Your Own Pasta Even without cheese, dairy-based sauces, and animal proteins, there's a lot to work with when putting together a personalized pasta creation with the sauces, seasonings, and veggies available. Salads Two of the three Domino’s salads can be made vegan. The Classic Garden salad, without cheese or croutons, is a bountiful full bowl of tomatoes, carrots, onion, and greens. The Chicken Apple Pecan salad, minus the chicken and cheese, is a fresh bowl of diced apple, dried cranberries, pecans, and greens that makes an excellent companion for a DIY flatbread. The vegan dressings are from Marzetti’s, Ken’s, and Kraft—familiar brands with plant-based offerings. Treehugger Tip Create a flatbread with the vegan thin crust, tomato or BBQ sauce, and several plant-based toppings. If pressed for time, choose something appealing from the existing Domino’s pizza creations (like the Honolulu Hawaiian or the Pacific Veggie pizza) and ask to hold the meat, cheese, and anything else animal-based. Vegan Crust While vegans don’t have a huge slice of the pie at United States branches, there’s still something for every taste, appetite, and palate. The selection of crust styles for vegans is thin—literally, only Domino's thin crust is vegan—but it's still a reliable choice. Vegan Toppings Where crust choice lacks, the toppings selection picks up the slack. There's a garden of possibilities for vegans here.
