Aurora borealis on your bucket list? This stunning time-lapse from Voyageurs National Park may entice you to replace Norway with the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
OK, we’ll never literally forget Scandinavia since it keeps proving itself to be the best place on the planet. However. If it’s northern lights you want, we’ve got them right here in the good ol’ USA, and rather spectacular ones at that.
The time-lapse film called Voyageurs (below) is a marvel and proves my point. The culmination of several weeks spent at Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota, the film is part of the fully fabulous More Than Just Parks project being undertaken by filmmaking brothers Will and Jim Pattiz. The dynamic duo is traveling across the nation making gorgeous films at all of the county’s national parks in an effort to “share the wonders of our national parks with as many people as we can, thereby ensuring their continued protection and enjoyment for generations to come.” Doing the good work.
This installation shows Voyageurs – a park that encompasses more than 340 square miles – in all of its utterly exquisite beauty. As Will tells TreeHugger, “you don't have to travel all the way to Norway or Iceland to see the most incredible displays of northern lights on the planet.”
And in fact today, you don’t even have to leave your desk! Enjoy.
