If you one day envision yourself standing at the finish line of the crazy "American Ninja Warrior" obstacle course, it's going to take lots of training, lots of guts, and lots of fruits and vegetables.

Kacy Catanzaro, a trending name thanks to her feat this week of becoming the first-ever woman to complete an "American Ninja Warrior" city course, definitely embodies all three of these. In an interview with Vulture immediately after her record-setting run, she revealed that embracing a clean diet has helped her and her co-competitor boyfriend, Brent Steffensen, compete harder.

"We definitely stay away from anything processed — no corn syrups and sugar and things like that," she said. "I always say that if I look at the ingredients and there’s something that I can’t read, I’m assuming that it’s bad. [Laughs.] So we definitely try and stick to super natural things, lots of greens, anything from the earth, greens, fruits, vegetables, nuts, things like that. We stay away from grains and gluten because it does bloat you out a little."

She added that typical meals include oatmeal, big salads with eggs, and lots of seafood. One thing that's not often on the menu, however, is meat. "Every now and then we’ll splurge and get some chicken nachos or something like that, but meat definitely isn’t on my normal meal regimen or anything," she shared.

In an interview last year, Steffensen said he and Catanzaro also stay away from traditional salad dressings. "You won’t catch us using salad dressing," he revealed. "Instead we use lemon juice or even hot sauce. We eat nuts from time to time and lots of avocado. You’ve gotta get those healthy fats in."
