Recycled Communist Pre-fab: Conclus

Over a million former proletarian apartments lay empty in Eastern Germany. As the population has declined in part due to Western migration, and large, concrete towers ("plattenbauen") have lost their appeal, many apartment complexes have crumbled under the wrecking ball. This gave the Biele brothers of the Conclus firm an idea: turn the plattenbauen's 6 ton, ten by twenty foot concrete slabs into updated single family homes. They cost around 30% less than conventional houses and take about a week to build. Projects are underway in the Berlin area and near Frankfurt. :: Conclus via The Guardian
