Nomadic Museum at New York's Pier 54

Temporary installations seem to be the order of the day in New York. If the Central Park gates weren’t enough to calm the craving, an exhibition of Gregory Colbert’s photography opened on March 5. When it moves in three months, the museum goes with it: designed by Shigeru Ban out of shipping containers, the cathedral-like gallery will up sticks and head to LA, with later stops in Beijing and Paris also planned. Only fourteen of the total 148 containers will actually be shipped (with building materials inside); the remainder will be gathered from the next port, saving on shipping costs for the artist (who works without a dealer). More importantly, it also saves on the environmental cost of shipping while putting even more derelict containers into temporary use. Runs through June 6, $12 USD ($6 students/seniors).
