Just because a house is historic doesn't mean you can't have a little fun. David Bülow and Per Appel of Primus Architekter had to preserve the exterior of a 1910 fisherman's house in Tisvildeleje, Nordsjælland, but built this stair as the main internal feature. It demonstrates how you can preserve the old but feel like new.
Stair Porn quotes them:
The project represents a complete refurbishment of an old 2-storey fisherman´s cottage situated on a beautiful plot overviewing and old fisherman´s village and the sea.
The exterior architecture had to be more or less recreated due to local restrictions, thus the project focuses on adding light and spatiality to the interior. This is done by introducing a sculptural staircase that opens up a view to the sky and creates a spatial connection between the 2 floors.
