Bamboo Furniture from Artek, Heirs to Aalto

"Form is a mystery that defies description but brings people pleasure"-Alvar Aalto. Artek was set up in 1935 to market Aalto's furniture, lamps and textiles, and continues to this day, blending "functionalism with form and sculptural simplicity with the emotional warmth of wood." Artek revolutionized modern furniture design with Aalto's moulded plywood designs- "Modern techniques combined with traditional craftsmanship ensure the quality of each piece of furniture. Tables and chairs supplied in the 1930s are still in use proving the furniture's longevity and graceful aging process." Now they are launching Bambu, " a dialogue with ethical and aesthetical values of Artek ideology. Alvar Aalto legacy meets the contemporary humane approach in the discussion of sustainability, culture and technology." Designed by Artek Studio/Henrik Tjaerby, the line consists of a chair, dining table and coffee table made of laminated bamboo. ::Artek via :;Dezeen
