Sama Baby Luxury Organics launches its fall/winter line in baby boutiques and organic stores across the country. The India organic cotton line launched November 1 and is available in boys and girls styles. Sama Baby Luxury Organics as a company is very kind to the planet. It's no secret that buying organic cotton can have a real impact on the planet considering that conventional cotton is one of the most chemically-dependent crops, sucking up 10 percent of all agricultural chemicals and 25 percent of insecticides on 3 percent of our arable land; that's more than any other crop per unit. In fact, it takes up to 1/3 of a pound of chemicals to produce enough cotton for a T-shirt, and 3/4 of a pound for a pair of jeans. Sama Baby's Minimal Impact on the Planet
• The company uses eco-friendly dyes and doesn't use any softeners or other chemicals in the end stages. Garments are never bleached before the dying process.
• It also uses biodegradable bags to store the fabric before it is made into garments.
• Its organic cotton farmers in India use organic vegetables as their rotation crop in the cotton fields. The vegetables are then served in the company's canteens and lunchrooms.
• All orders are shipped in recycled cardboard and all shipping peanuts are biodegradable.
A Commitment to the Community
It's nothing new for a product to be fair trade but Sama Baby goes a step further in its community involvement by committing resources to help improve the quality of life for the farmers and workers in India. The company teaches farmers organic farming practices so that they can be self sustaining organic farmers. In addition, it educates mill workers by bringing in tudors and providing online education. The company also provides night school opportunities so that when they are done at the factory employees can move up in their chosen career.
