Let’s see, what you really, really want is, say, a 3-inch square heel, open-toe pink sandal with black straps, and sequins…that’s vegan. What are the chances of finding your perfect shoe? Pretty much next to nothing. So, design it yourself.
Bespoke shoemakers, Shoes of Prey, allows clients to design their own shoes online. And in partnership with The Vegan Society, they have just launched a new line of vegan materials, allowing animal-loving shoe-lovers to design certified vegan shoes via web for the first time.
To achieve certification by The Vegan Society's international standard, Shoes of Prey met the following criteria:
Free of animal ingredients: The manufacture and/or development of the product, and where applicable its ingredients, must not involve, or have involved, the use of any animal product, by-product or derivative.
Free of animal testing: The development and/or manufacture of the product, and where applicable its ingredients, must not involve, or have involved, testing of any sort on animals conducted at the initiative of the manufacturer or on its behalf, or by parties over whom the manufacturer has effective control.
The site has a base of 16 styles (from ballet flats and sandals to stiletto ankle boots) to start with, from there you can customize them from the sole up. With more than “4 trillion possibilities,” you get your choice of shape, heel height and design, toe style, materials and embellishments, etc. delivered to your door in two weeks. They also have a very generous return policy – you don’t like them or they don’t fit, they’ll make them again.
Prices range from $140 to $330 depending on the style. Start your shoes here: Shoes of Prey.
