We recently mentioned that one of the largest textile recycling initiatives in the US will launch in New York City in September. While non profits bid to host the recycling bins, you may be wondering what happens to all of those garments, shoes, and accessories. In the UK, Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development (TRAID) operates 900 recycling banks. They sell second hand clothing at their charity shops, breath new life into excess textiles by upcycling them into one-off clothing and selling them under their fashion label TRAIDremade.
Now, for the first time ever they have created a super limited-edition capsule collection of women's flats and sandals called "Golightly"--named with Ms. Holly in mind, perhaps? Click through for photos of our favorite shoes; all created with reclaimed vintage fabrics, leathers, and trims.
From the press release:
TRAID sorted through piles of unwanted upholstery, vintage curtains and fabric remnants to find perfect prints. Beautiful buttons were unearthed from TRAID's stash of button tins long since forgotten by their original owners. Leather from single boots were cut into trims and zips donated by the luxury goods company Smythson were ingeniously remade into feature bows.
