Fall weather -- and fashion -- is in the air, which means it will soon be time to don your favorite styles for cooler temps. If you have seen our Back to School Fall Fashion Guide you know I am all about classic, transitional pieces that can be worn year round. Enter Shabd Simon-Alexander.

The Brooklyn-based designer's fall 2011 collection infuses classic tie-dye designs, which will add a burst of color to any drab wardrobe, with wearable, versatile wardrobe staples in solid colors.

From tailored trousers to shift dresses, Simon-Alexander's 16-piece collection for fall/winter 2011 is all about versatility and functionality. Take the Shoreline Dress, for example, which can be worn more than 9 different ways.

Employing hand-dyeing techniques and the use of fabrics such as silk, wool, and organic cotton, the designer draws inspiration from abstract expressionism, the cold winter sky, elemental tones, modernist landscape paintings, and more.

Also available in black, the Arctic Tea Gown has an elegant and form-flattering silhouette that will suit formal winter parties and fall gatherings alike.

Simon-Alexander's Precipise trousers, in Magma, give a tie-dye twist to a classic pair of high-waist pants though the fit is best suit for the pin-thin frame of a model.

Wool adds seasonal appeal and warmth. The wool pleat dress, left, and field blouse, right, offer classic styles for the more conservative Shabd Simon-Alexander fan.

It almost goes without saying that the collection is art in the form of fashion. But you'll have to wait until early September to get your hands on these garments, which range in price from $88-580, though a few select items are currently available online at Shop Shabd.
