JoAnn Berman, reigning queen of (re)construction, has been creating modern pieces out of vintage garments for over 28 years. The Designer took some pre-fashion week time -- shorter than a New York minute -- away from finishing her designs for fall, to tell us more about her process. Click through for photos from her pre-fall 2010 collection, and tune in post fashion week for "Thunderbirds," premiering at the GreenShows during New York Fashion Week:JoAnn Berman says, "I have been doing DIY since 1977 when I could not afford materials, that is how I did my senior show at St. Martins college of Art. The word 'green' and 'ecology' were not even in the vocabulary at the time."

The collection is made by hand in her sample room located in Brooklyn, New York. Her garments are 99% reconstructed; made with donated materials, used garments from vintage and second hand stores, faux fur, and 1-2% reserved for new zippers, thread, and other findings. Wither over 28 years of experimenting with vintage fabrics, her craft is clearly fine tuned. We look forward to seeing her (re)creations for fall 2010 on the runway come Monday.
