Of all the fantastic ethical fashion labels that we've seen over the last few seasons at the London Fashion Week Estethica show Ada Zanditon is without doubt the stand out talent in terms of drama, creativity and concepts. Each season she has chosen a stunning environmental theme and meticulously built an incredibly beautiful collection around it, complete with fitting accessories of jewellery and shoes. Last season she wowed the crowds with her bee colony inspired collection, this season her work highlights the mystical twilight beauty of bats with a collection entitled Echolocation. Here are our favourite pieces from her show...
Bats for Fashion
Ada Zanditon not only works with ethical fabrics and production to produce her designs but her collection concepts also raise awareness of environmental issues. Last season she was inspired to promote this issue of bee colony collapse disorder, this season she highlights the much lesser known problem of declining bat populations in the UK, due to habitat destruction and light pollution. Her AW10 collection is titled Echolocation after the term used for bats' ability to navigate their way through the dark night sky.
Zanditon's psychedelic graphics
Th e Echolocation collection uses stunning jewel coloured silks, chic Scottish wools and soft organic cotton and bamboo jersey. We particularly love Zanditon's bold almost psychedelic prints, using digital images of her own drawings and watercolours. They evoke silhouettes of tree branches and the dusky pinks and purples of plants and flowers in the evening. The overall impression gives us a dramatic bat's eyeview flying through the landscape.
Vauxhall Fashion Scout Show
Congratulations must go to Ada Zanditon for being the only designer selected this year from Estethica for her own catwalk show, part of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout series that showcases hot young emerging design talent each season. Zanditon's dramatic structures, vivid prints and dazzling colours definitely deserve to be shown off in the catwalk spotlight.
T-shirt for Bat Conservation Trust
But it's not all just fashion fabulousness folks. Ada Zanditon is backing up her inspirational design talent with her ethical commitment to support bat populations in the UK. She has created a beautiful bat graphic printed on a bamboo jersey t-shirt, to the delight of many of us who could never hope to own one of her incredible dresses, with 10% of the cost of the t-shirt being donated to the Bat Conservation Trust.
Showing at Paris Fashion Week, 5th-8th March - Rendez-Vous Femme, Espace Pierre Cardin, Paris.
