Over thirty ethical and sustainable suppliers from around the world came together in London this past weekend (November 20-21, 2009) for the Ethical Fashion Forum's first ever Global Sourcing Marketplace, a non-profit initiative dedicated to supporting sustainable practices within the fashion industry, reducing its impact on the environment, and creating fair conditions for garment workers. The event drew over 200 people including designers, students, major retailers--Ted Baker, Topshop, Spenser--ethical fashion brands--Frank & Faith, Ascension, Luflux--and helped make connections that will hopefully influence and secure ethical supply chains for future collections. Gijs Spoor, director of Zameen Organic and an exhibitor, speaks to the two-day event, below.

We are from India where sustainable textiles are very very very niche. It was amazing to see the lively community of designers, brands and researchers in London, and it made us feel like we are part of a large family.
