Eco Fashionistas united for the EGBNY Project Earth Day Fashion Show to enjoy a glamorous evening of champagne, organic hors d’oeuvres, and leggy models scantily clad in bamboo clothe, soy-fiber, and organic cotton. The event featured a student design competition and runway show of emerging professional eco-designers to raise awareness and draw attention to fashion that respects the environment, but is also glamorous, luxurious, and trendy. Traipsing down the recycled runway were clothing creations that emphasized fair trade and natural products. Models donned Charmoné heels and form-fitting silhouettes by Doie, AuH20 and Loyale. Organic outfits were accessorized with aGain NYC clutches, Voltaic solar-powered bags, and ultra-modern up-dos.

Though constructed with recycled, natural, or sustainable materials, the designs were striking for their contemporary style, eye-catching sexiness and flattering aesthetic rather than simply the use of eco-materials. Highlights included Ekovaruhuset’s clingy evening gown (above) with crochet detailing and seductive sleeve slits—truly an elegant affair that was both refined and daring. Sara Kirsner’s of Doie Designs offered a more practical eco-solution in bamboo-fabric dresses (below)--easy choices for hot summer days and tighter wallets.
