The new Decoratives line by Dr. Hauschka is a mineral-based line of eyeshadows and blushes that are free of parabens and phthalates. Plus they come in several natural colors that will accentuate your smoky, stunning eyes and your sky-high cheek bones. I was given a few samples from this new line to try and for the most part I really liked the texture of this makeup. The blush comes in two shades and the darker pink one gave better results. The lighter pink was almost too light and I could barely see it - I had to put on several applications to get any results, but the darker shade is a really nice color. If you're going to use this daily, you will probably need your own brush because the applicator brush that comes in the package is teeny tiny.
On to the eyes - the eyeshadows come in a great texture and are more creamy than powdery, which is great for application. You can see exactly where the makeup is going and you don't have to coat the brush because a little goes a long way. The shades are all really good for making smokey eyes, or just for a serious, professional office atmosphere - no wild colors here. Though, the darkest shade is almost a coal color and is kind of too harsh - buyer beware that less is more and this shade is for experienced artists only. The mascara has a slightly strange smell and takes multiple applications to get on your lashes. It was kind of a pain at first, but to be honest was nicer to have more control over the mascara, rather than getting goopey eyelashes with the first stroke and having to recover from that.
While a bit pricey, Dr. Hauschka has been introducing one organic hair and beauty product line after another for years. They introduced their organic hair care line in 2006 with thrilling flavors like "macadamia and orange shampoo." This year they created mascara in green, just in time for St. Patrick's Day. Now they're still green but the makeup colors aren't - with rich shades like brown and grey that will make your eyes stand out without calling too much unwanted attention to your face.
All items in the Decoratives Cosmetic line (eyeshadow, rouge powder, and mascara) are made without parabens, phthalates, silicones or synthetic colors or fragrances. The mascara is actually a grey-ish color, Pearl Anthracite, which uses rose and candellia waxes to thicken lashes without clumping. The rouge powder uses sage extract, black tea and witch hazel, for things like nurturing, warming and strengthening - whatever that means in terms of cheek blush. The eyeshadow uses equally ambiguous ingredients to improve the skin around your eyes. Mica (which we reported might be lead-contaminated) and diatomaceous earth are used to bring vitality to the eye area, while silk powder offers pH balancing for your skin. Yay?
Either way, the colors look subtle and natural, and the ingredients are at least pronounceable (even if we're not sure why they have calming properties). You can find Decoratives by Dr. Hauschka online and in your favorite beauty stores. :Dr. Hauschka
