One mile isn't far; I walked twenty times as far every day last week in Rome, yet it felt like I was walking forever. It is all due to what Steve Mouzon calls "Walk Appeal"; explaining that people don't just drive in North America because distances are so long (a mile certainly isn't) but because what they are walking by is so unbearably awful and unsuited to pedestrians.
