The program of public libraries in Medellin was recognized internationally by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for its role in bringing together people in the city and promoting access to education.

La Quintana library-park was conceived by architect Ricardo La Rotta Caballero. Its main feature is a large wooden pergola that creates shadow and a meeting space -- apart from uniting the building with its surroundings.
