Best Young Architect: Todd Saunders

Buildings take a long time to build, as do reputations; Frank Gehry just turned 80 and you don't see much of his work around from forty years ago. Todd Saunders is a Canadian practicing out of Norway, and combines a Nordic design sensibility with environmental concerns. A graduate in both environmental planning and design and architecture, he has built cabins and houses in Norway, but my favourite project is the public toilet by Todd and Tommie Wilhelmson, seen above. Imagine what our cities and towns would be like if everyone put such care into the design of the basic, prosaic structures around us.
