Nature and wildlife photographer Don Quintana took this wonderful shot of a California tarantula (Aphonopelma sp.) at Whale Rock Reservoir in Cayucos, California. He writes:
I know there is a photography lesson here about getting down to eye level with your subject. That’s just what I did to get this photograph of a male California Tarantula roaming about looking for a mate. It is that time of the year when the males emerge and begin to hunt for a female to mate with so, be careful out there, you don’t want to step on one of these guys and ruin their day!
Indeed, though this guy would be hard to miss ... i would be like not seeing a kitten in your path!
