Photo: Short-eared owl rules the roost

How one bird can be so authoritative and so adorable at the same time is a mystery, but nonetheless, photographer Tony LePrieur captured this beauty displaying both traits in full force. Not to mention that color! And as it so happens, the short-eared owl (Asio flammeus) is named for the word flammeus, which is Latin for "flaming, or the color of fire." And how!
