Photo: Malachite butterfly shines like a gem

The open wings of the Malachite butterfly (Siproeta stelenes) resemble the green and black of the mineral it’s named after, but you can see here that its closed wings are also strikingly beautiful. This one was photographed by André Alves in Brazil.
