Photo: The caterpillar we can't get over

The fancy beauty that could have served as muse to Victorian milliners.

We've seen plenty of curious caterpillars in our day, but this fancy beauty photographed by Andreas Kay at the Reserva Ecológica Tamandua in Ecuador totally takes the cake. What is going on? The yellow chenille top, white downy tufts beneath, and those sweeping black feather accoutrements are out of this world. Kay, a scientist and naturalist in Ecuador as well as a photographer, is not sure what species of caterpillar this is, but just knowing that it exists is enough for us.
