Photographer Don Quintana says that he's spent countless hours at California's Morro Bay marina photographing a male belted kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon). "At first, he was elusive and non-cooperative, but over a period of time he has grown accustomed to having his photo taken. Not so much with the female Belted Kingfisher," Quintana notes. "Up until yesterday she remained skittish and uncooperative. I was thrilled to finally have the opportunity to capture a nice portrait of her as she sat in a pine tree watching the water below for fishing opportunities."
