Piping plovers are just terribly cute at pretty much all times, as illustrated by this photo from Scott Heron taken in Hampton, New Hampshire.
Sadly, populations of these birds are in decline, due in part to the expansion of human development along the shores these birds call home. According to Audubon, there are only about 8,000 adults globally.
