Believed to be one of the first extinctions caused by global warming, the purple Aladabra Banded Snail is native to the Indian Ocean's Seychelles Islands -- but hasn't been seen since 1997. Biologist Justin Gerlach noticed that the snails' population seemed to drop dramatically as longer, hotter summers jeopardized the youngest members of the family.
