These birds are commonly called Purple Sandpipers, although they have only the faintest of purple glosses in the winter—and no purple in the summer. They typically spend summers in the northern tundra of Canada, and winters along the Atlantic coast, according to All About Birds. This one was photographed in Hampton Beach State Park, New Hampshire.
