The great grey owl (Strix nebulosa) gets its name from its large size. It is the tallest owl in the Americas, and also has the largest wing span. According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, these birds live year-round in the northern parts of the U.S., Alaska and throughout much of Canada.
