Photo of the Day: A fan worm's plumes wave in the current

1247 of 1357

This beautiful creature is a fan worm, a filter-feeding invertebrate. The photographer writes, "The southern fan worm is native to Australia and has a fan that is white, brown and purple. This photo may also be the European fan worm, which is an introduced species that is being monitored by DPI. The introduced species has a spiraled fan; what do you think - is the fan spiraled or not?"
