The photographer writes, "With a circumference of 25.5 feet and shading an area of 17,000 square feet, this Quercus virginiana is said to be the largest living organism east of the Mississippi River. Age estimates range from 300- 400 years old to a legendary 1500 years old. It is named from previous owners Martha & Justin Angel, dating back to the early 1700's. It now resides within its own park owned by the city of Charleston, South Carolina."
