Fall may be a long way away, but this photo from the Smoky Mountains captures its feeling perfectly.
Our contributor photographed this buck in Cataloochee, a valley of the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Elk were once driven to extinction in this area by overhunting, but in 2001 were reintroduced to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
