Choosing eco-friendly accommodations doesn't have to come with a premium price tag, or at least not when you head for the Black Sheep Inn in Ecuador. The bed and breakfast is a mecca for hikers, with the Andes' Iliniza Ecological reserve, Rio Toachi Canyon, and Lake Quilotoa all nearby. As part of their goal to become self-sufficient, the owners grow their own food, installed composting toilets, built a solar pump to bring water from the property's pond up to the gardens, and designed their own unique solar-wind hybrid system for providing electricity. The inn pride's itself on zero-waste policies, and use empty wine and liquor bottles to build walls in the sauna and showers.
