Aristotle wrote that "in all things of nature there is something of the marvelous." Sometimes, however, the marvelous is overshadowed by the gross, the annoying, and the downright destructive.

By even hoards of creepy-crawlies have a silver lining, if you can force yourself to look closely enough.

If you are a farmer or gardener, it's hard to find love for aphids. Among the most destructive species for plants, these insects are also one of the most successful species on the planet. We may hate them, but some ants actually protect aphids, collecting the sweet secretions they leave behind.
