Similar to Diego’s Artisan Chocolate, Madécasse is unusual in that it produces its high-end chocolate in Madagascar, rather than shipping out ingredients for production elsewhere. Madécasse protects the island’s genetically pure cacao, available nowhere else on Earth, and uses shade-grown beans from farmer-owned plantations. Every bar is wrapped by hand. The company prides itself on being “grown in Africa, made in Africa,” which it says has four times the impact of fair trade.
