Having salad dressing on hand can turn an ordinary meal into something extraordinary. Dressings are very easy to mix up at home and can be made in advance. Store in clean, glass Mason jars in the fridge. Here are some recipes for dressings that are far more delicious (and healthy!) than anything you’ll find at the store.
This is my family’s favourite. We seriously can’t get enough of it. The original comes from a cookbook called “Friday Night Dinners” by Canadian cook Bonnie Stern and was supposed to be served with a tomato-arugula-avocado salad, but we use it on all salads. It disappears as fast as I can make it.
¼ cup fresh lime juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp honey
½ tsp kosher salt
1 tbsp cumin seeds, toasted and lightly crushed, or ½ tsp ground cumin
1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
To prepare dressing, in a small bowl, combine lime juice, garlic, honey, salt and cumin. Whisk in oil. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary.
