Minden started as a lumber town but is now primarily a tourist centre, supporting the cottagers on the many lakes around it and the visitors checking out its roadside attractions. (It has great ice cream, both here and at the big Kawartha Dairy.) Some people will no doubt complain about me calling it a bit downmarket from the fancier Muskoka district to the west. It is not a particularly wealthy community. So what makes Passivhaus so popular here?
