We have two main pet peeves when it comes to buying clothes for kids: First, Environmentally harsh production and materials that don't even last long enough to become hand-me-downs and second, lame, cutesy designs that cause nothing but embarrassment when you get out the old albums. With Barley and Birch, you don't have to worry about either issue: The clothes are made from certified organic cotton and water-based inks, so they're easy on the Earth during production and durable enough for baby #2, and the designs--think bright purple flowers, dancing birds, and colorful architecture--are eye-catching and fun (without the twee sentiments). (Gretchen and Grace, $12-$24)
