Swap the novelty bar for BirdProject Soap's black and white birds with a story.
The natural and vegan black soap, made from biodiesel glycerin, aloe, Fair Trade olive oil, and other local ingredients by New Orleans' Sweet Olive Soaps, hides a smaller white ceramic bird, made from Louisiana Clay. As you use the black soap it washes away, revealing the white bird left inside -- a "potent symbol of restoration and recovery," say the artists, meant to remind you of the lasting effects of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Half of sale proceeds also go to benefit the Gulf Restoration Network and International Bird Rescue as they work on cleaning up the area and caring for the local fauna. (BirdProject Soap, $24)
