The show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo on TLC, has become a pop culture phenomenon, which says, well, something about the state of our popular culture. (Note: Until recently, TLC and TreeHugger shared a parent company, Discovery Communications. Discovery still retains a minority stake in TreeHugger.)
Like the Kardashians or Snookie, Honey Boo Boo has become one of those American celebrities that defy the odds and can confuse anyone that attempts to understand how or why their fame came to be. I won't attempt to dissect it here, but simply want to point you to what I think is an impressive bit of art.
In the video above, you'll see mosaic portrait artist, Jason Mecier take 25 pounds of trash and found objects and create an incredibly detailed portrait sculpture of Honey Boo Boo. The items Mecier uses to create his portraits come from what his subjects are known for, so it is fitting that packaging from butter, sugar and other junk food are well-represented in this piece.
Click through the gallery for more of Mecier's impressive 3D trash sculptures, including Snoop Dogg, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Lady Gaga and more.
