This fake 'grassroots movement' was created by the American Petroleum Institute to create the illusion that there were droves of people furious about clean energy reform. Humorous accounts of oil and coal company employees getting bussed in to protest during their lunch hours and the generally low impact of Energy Citizens rallies showed the public wasn't duped.
