Here's one of those ideas that never quite made it. At least not yet.

Sainsbury's, the UK-based supermarket chain, made some bold moves to slash its transportation footprint by delivering groceries to central London stores by barge. Not only would the scheme have reduced the carbon emissions for each delivery, but it would have helped ease congestion too. Sadly, The Grocer recently reported that the infrastructure was just not there to make it work.
