Sun Chips Bags

Snack maker Sun Chips was at the forefront of bioplastics when it switched to biodegradable packaging in 2009.

But while the compostable bags still had their issues -- some critics raised questions about whether or not the particular bioplastic the company used was truly eco-friendly -- and the bags were discontinued soon after they launched because consumers thought they made too much noise. (A quieter version was rereleased for the plain flavor only.)
