Stop the presses! The best escape fantasy ever is on the market and could be yours for a mere $2.3 million, or about the cost of a Manhattan condo. Tanera Mor is the main island of the Summer Isles, an idyllic archipelago a mile and a half off the northwest coast of Scotland near Ullapool. You want seven miles of rugged cliffs, sheltered coves and beaches? Make an offer! The island is 1.6 miles long and 1.2 miles wide, has spectacular views and sustains itself with generators and wind turbines for 24-hour electricity; plus, a freshwater treatment works. © Tim Winterburn © Tim Winterburn Over the last 15 years more than 164,000 native trees have been planted in a successful effort to give protection to the land and shelter windswept paths. (Although who doesn’t love windswept paths?) The 10 structures on the island are traditional stone and include the main building – the Old School House – and an additional nine cottages, which have all been restored. For remote workers (and everyone else, I suppose) there is a telephone exchange and ... broadband. In 1970 the island's private postal service was inaugurated for mail delivery to and from the mainland. It is allowed to issue private Summer Isles postage stamps. Can you imagine, your own postage stamps? © summer-isles.com © Tim Winterburn If the price tag is too steep, the island is also being offered up in three lots. For $850,000 you can have the entire north end, with three houses, a cafe and the post office. $523,000 gets a lucky buyer the central area, complete with two houses and the island's largest beach. The third option comes in at $937,000 and includes four houses and the small islands of Eilean Mor, Eilean Beag and an unnamed tidal island. © Tim Winterburn © Tim Winterburn © Tim Winterburn Time for a Kickstarter or what?
