New York Moves Closer to Renewable Future

alt In the wake of Mayor Bloomberg’s Earth Day policy speech, New York State has made an important move towards sustainability. According to the New York Energy Research and Development Authority and the New York State Public Service Commission, 21 renewable energy generating facilities have been selected to help the state achieve its renewable portfolio standard (RPS). The selected facilities include 10 existing hydroelectric plants, 9 new wind facilities, and 2 biomass plants. Combined, the selected plants will move New York closer to achieving its RPS, in which 25% of electric generation will come from renewable sources by 2013.
