In June 2004, Garden of Life was named the 5th fastest growing business in America by Entrepreneur magazine. Now the company, who produce a line of whole food nutritional products, have purchased renewable energy certificates equal to 100% of their energy needs at their West Palm Beach corporate headquarters. The arrangement is through 3 Phases Energy, and is said to prevent "over 1 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the earth's atmosphere, which is equivalent to planting 129 acres of trees or taking 99 cars off of the road for one year." Apparently the purchase will go to support the Weathersford Wind Energy Center in Custer County, Oklahoma. Greg Horn, CEO of Garden of Life, is quoted in the press release on Renewable Energy Access as saying, "By supporting newly constructed wind energy projects, we're helping replace energy generated by fossil fuels that pollute the atmosphere, the oceans, and ultimately our bodies." Other green initiatives include moving their catalogue to 100% post-consumer recycled paper with 100% vegetable-based inks, saving "1786 trees from being harvested and 60,000 pounds of paper from going into landfill this year." ::Garden of Life via tipster Jeff S.
