China Plans For 30 GW Offshore Wind Power By 2020

via internet science tech

China's big plans for renewable energy continue: People's Daily Online reveals that as part of the nation's twelfth Five-Year Plan offshore wind power will be expanded to 5 GW over the next five years and should grow to 30 GW by 2020.

Public bidding for that first wind power expansion will begin later this year and be complete by mid-2012. The goal: To "form a complete technology and industrial chain." Anyone want to take bets on how much offshore wind power the United States will have in ten years' time? Will it still be trailing far behind, stuck in political wrangling?
