Environment Recycling & Waste Recycle Your Old Reusable Bags By Robin Shreeves Writer Cairn University Rowan University Wine School of Philadelphia Robin Shreeves is a freelance writer who focuses on sustainability, wine, travel, food, parenting, and spirituality. our editorial process Robin Shreeves Updated May 31, 2017 Share Twitter Pinterest Email Environment Plastics Zero Waste I have a pile of reusable grocery bags from Wegmans that I don’t use anymore. They sit at the bottom of the cabinet where I keep my bags. Some are ripped. Some have lost the plastic piece at the bottom that helps give them their shape. There’s not good reason I haven’t gotten rid of them until now, but now I have a good way to get rid of them. The ChicoBag Repurposing Program accepts “all your tired masses of reusable bags, functional or not” and distributes them to people who need them or recycles them into new products with the help of The Grateful Thread. The Grateful Thread takes the reusable bags that aren’t in good condition and handcrafts them into items like handbags, coasters, yoga mat bags, aprons and more. The proceeds from the sale of these items benefit Schuylkill Women in Crisis, a nonprofit organization that provides free and confidential services to victims of domestic violence in rural Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The bags you donate will directly go to help those in need, either by becoming someone else’s reusable bag or being turned into an item that will ultimately benefit women in crisis. All we have to do is send our old, tired bags off to ChicoBag. The only cost to you is the price of postage. The bags can be mailed to: ChicoBag Company C/O Zero Waste Program 349 Huss Drive Chico, CA 95928 Image: Chicobag.com
