Keep your skin looking fabulous with these all-natural, clean products handcrafted in Colorado.
Open a jar of Olga’s Organics face powder and a delicious scent will waft upward to your nose, smelling faintly of cinnamon and nutmeg, with a dash of rich cocoa, too. For anyone who’s used to conventional makeup, it’s shocking for a product to smell so good, so edible. You have to resist the temptation to lick your finger and stick it into the powder (although, if you did, it wouldn’t hurt). Welcome to the world of green, clean cosmetics – the way all cosmetics should be made.
Olga’s Organics is a company based in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. It all started in 2012, when founder Olga Reding had a conversation with her husband on their porch. He works as a radiation therapist and was distressed by how many young people were being treated for cancer. At the same time, Reding was learning about the value of organic and plant-based foods, and how what we put into (and onto) our bodies has a significant effect on our health and wellbeing.
Reding began searching for clean cosmetics to use and was surprised to discover there wasn’t a single USDA-certified face powder on the market. So, she decided to make it herself. She told TreeHugger:
“I couldn’t trust any companies that included a plethora of ingredients I couldn’t even pronounce in their products, so I researched a face powder recipe, as that is the first step of my makeup routine. The first batch was great! It did exactly what I wanted and, most importantly, was plant-based, vegan, and used certified organic ingredients. I gave some to friends and family and, through their feedback, modified the recipe and created two more shades for different skin tones.”
Since 2016, when Olga’s Organics officially launched its product line, the company has refined its face powder recipe, added a vegan kabuki brush for powder application, and created a selection of certified organic whipped body butters. The body butters come in five scents – fresh mint, lavender, orange dream, ylang-ylang, and grapefruit-lavender. Reding has plans to expand the product line further, adding eye shadow, blush, and lip tint by the end of this year.
Pictured above is green beauty blogger Jaclyn Houston, a fan of the brand. I’ve also been using Olga’s Organics face powder throughout the summer and it’s the nicest I’ve ever tried. I do not like foundation, but this powder is light and breathable and does a great job smoothing out my skin and absorbing excess oil. The body butter has the richness you would expect from a blend of raw shea butter, coconut oil, and jojoba oil, but personally, I love luscious moisturizers that I can feel my skin soaking up thirstily.
