We recently received a tip on a USB Ultrasonic Mosquito Pest Repeller now available for just $5.69 USD, plus another $5 for shipping. While this handy, little device eliminates the use of pesticides and other harmful bug sprays, we wondered if the thing actually works and if there is anything else that we can do to rid our yards of pests while these last few days of summer wind down.I have to admit, I have been lured into the ultrasonic mosquito repeller-type devices before and to be honest, I haven't had much luck. Either I have ultrasonic hearing and am able to hear frequencies that only mosquitoes can hear, or that high pitched noise that woke me up at 2am means the darn thing didn't work. Either way, I never could tell if mosquitoes were offended because I couldn't tolerate the noise long enough to leave it outside next to me. Now a similar device, powered through a USB outlet, is available claiming to rid mosquitoes through the same annoying auditory methods. The USB either means that you plug it into your laptop when you work outdoors at the local coffee shop, or you have to come up with a USB-type plug for your backyard in order for this to work. Also, while you're not using pesticides you are using electricity in its place. Plus it only has a range of 1.5 meters, meaning you pretty much have to keep that little kill stick right next to you.
Now, if you are not as gullible as I, and don't buy into the supersonic mosquito repeller, here are a few other things you can try to rid your yard of mosquitoes, the non-toxic way: 5 eco-friendly ways to repel mosquitoes, you can try the mosquito magnet if you are really serious about taking out those bugs, or even make your own natural mosquito repellent.
The repeller is currently on backorder so we can't try it out, but we'd like to hear back from you. If you've had any luck with this USB device, or a similar ultrasonic mosquito device, let us know. :USB Ultrasonic Mosquito Pest Repeller
